Work-life balance can be something that feels out of reach for a lot of us. If you’re feeling a constant tug-of-war between the competing demands of work and home, you’re not alone. The good news is, there are many practices we can put in place to help us achieve a healthy work-life balance.

Some simple steps you might want to start taking include:

Setting boundaries

Learning to say no can be one of the hardest skills for an individual to learn and put into practice. Whilst we don’t mean saying no to everything, it is an important part of setting boundaries. To begin, assess the typical responsibilities of your day and try to articulate and prioritise what you have on your plate. Consider that saying no to tasks that are less of a priority may free up time and energy for those things which are more crucial to yours and your company’s success.

Take Breaks

Being told to take a break might seem unachievable. But we don’t always mean a 2-week holiday in a tropical country ( however nice that may be). Even a 2-minute microbreak can: improve concentration, reduce stress, keep you feeling engaged, and make your work feel more enjoyable. It’s especially important to be mindful of this when you’re working from home.

Use Your Holiday

If you’re constantly on the grind, you’re likely to experience burnout. Your employer provides holiday days for you to take a break, so make sure you use them. It doesn’t always have to be something fancy, even if you want to spend your holiday sitting on the sofa watching TV, this will still allow you to unwind. We all need to recharge at some point, and using your holiday is a great opportunity to do so.

Plan Ahead

Planning ahead and organising yourself with calendars, to-do lists, and time management apps is a great way to stay on top of your work-load, but also allows you to find time to do the things you enjoy. This way you’ll be able to find time to complete work, social, leisure, and fitness activities.
